Why? Because in my role as a tourist police volunteer in Thailand I have to deal with deaf people from many countries. I know that there are different SLs in different countries, so learning some ISL should enable me to get ‘the message’ across, albeit in maybe with simplified grammar. But do all deaf people understand ISL? How about alphabet and number spelling? Thanks!

I don’t know about there but in the US we can get lesson books from our local library. what they did not have on it, they ordered from our state library.
You might want to google it and see if there is anything on the internet.
how many people know and can communicate in Esperanto
am not sure and am not one of them. I doubt all deaf people can communicate in international sign, just like not all blind people know braille
My sister know two sign languages is ASL and RSL (Russian Sign Language) and we both are Deaf.
So many different countries can’t be same sign languages , it is just like people who speaking different languages and they all can’t understand each others.
So believe me most Deaf people don’t know ISL but only their own Language most of time or more than one Sign Languages.
