Need help learning American Sign Language.?

I met this reallycool girl online, we met in person today, cause we’re gonna be exercise buddies, but I don’t know that much sign language! I’m desperate to learn! I know how to ask for the signs for stuff, but sometimes I have a hard time remembering. I have to repeat the sign about 10 times before I feel comfortable. See, I get frustrated when I cannot communicate well with some one, and I like to learn languages We had to write everything today, which is ok, but I got a really bad case of writers cramp! So, can anyone help me?

  1. Like everything else, the more you practice the better you get. When I was in an ASL class we were taught to sign everything we saw as we rode in the car, shopped, talked with our friends, etc. It will be awkward at first but soon you’ll be signing much more gracefully and faster. Get a teaching book on ASL and then try learning finger spelling first, meaning all the letters of the alphabet, try spelling your name and those of your family and friends. Then you can move on to signs for whole words…but you’ll always need finger spelling because there are things and people that do not have a word and will need to be spelled out.
I wish you well with your new friend. She will appreciate the lengths you go to to be her friend.
