I want to learn 4 languages not including sign language. My sister and I were going to take a German class (which is one of the languages i plan on learning) but they were like 5 days a week for something like 4 hours and then another 16 hours of lab. So we were going to take sign language instead which I actually kind of want to learn. I just want to know if it is going to be a big waste of time. How often does someone living a normal life use sign language? Is it at least kind of important if you plan on traveling a lot?

it’s only useful in Yemen
ok
WELL IMPORTANT IS AS THE SITUATION CALLS FOR UM WE ALL KNOW SEVERAL HAND GESTURES THAT ARE KNOWN INTERNATIONALLY, IF YOU GOT THOSE DOWN PAT, YOU SHOULD BE OK LOL
I would say it is pretty useless unless you really know someone who is deaf. You will never ever use it if you don’t. I would stick to German if I were you.
well, it is valuable, if you have friends that are deaf… there are deaf people all over the world, and if you take sign language that would be great, but, if you are taking American Sign Language, chances are, people from different countries wouldn’t understand. It is a language just like any other.
Dear:
my best advise is to stay away from it. It is a big wasted of time. I do also like learning languages as well. And some time ago I took the stupid decision to study American Sign language. Everyone keep telling me that I could get a very good job with it. I got my AA in ASL and I am currently working on something that has nothing to do with it. There is no way you can do something with it. Being an interpreter? no, that is the worse thing you can ever do. the problems is that sign language is not really a language. It does not have grammar. Besides 77 percent of deaf people do not know their own language. every deaf person has his own kind of sign language. it’s not that crazy. better to learn a spoken language. like german or spanish is more useful. And most deaf people would not communicated with in sign, if they know that you are hearing. Most of them hated hearing people and wont socialize with you.
