American sign language would be the more widely spoken of the two, with it being used in most parts of Canada, some parts of Mexico and numerous other countries as well, also America’s population dwarfs Britain’s. BUT what of china with its 1.3Billion people? One would assume that due to worse health care that the would be a higher incidence of deafness, but would they also all learn the same sign language (if learning one at all)? That’s something for you to research.
The best? Learn the one you plan on using, i.e the one of the country you live in, or the one you plan on living in, that’s the best for you.
No-one in their right mind will say that one language is superior to another, many think their own to be superior and yet no language is perfect. English has a lot of stupid rules and some of the spelling is downright counter intuitive, but on the other hand it has a relatively small alphabet (a plus in my opinion, although it being phonetic would be brilliant) and a staggeringly huge vocabulary.
