It’s not a dumb question. The sign would be correct to the person viewing it, but it would look backwards to you, the signer. It’s not harder for the viewer to understand, and many new signers are taught to practice in front of a mirror so they can see what the sign looks like to the other person, and to make sure they are doing the sign correctly.
