i’m from thePhilippines. i wanted to find out if there is a good sign language school around my province, La Union, or in Baguio City.
the school year had officially started today, June 1st, and the school management gave me an advisory class to handle, plus there other classes i have to teach too. one of my students is mute, and almost totally deaf (she can hear but very faintly). she can do sign language, but with no other people who can do it, it’s pretty much useless.
i’m a fairly new teacher, with only 6 months of teaching experience. the older teachers told me it’s just a matter of being patient, et cetera. i think it’d be okay, since she’s gotten as far as the sophomore year in high school…
but it has always been one of my “ambitions” to learn sign language. and even more now that i have a student who can use the help, if there’s just someone who can help her express herself…
so now im looking for a sign language school near my area coz now i have a stronger reason to: to help the student =P
i hope someone out there knows a place so i can go check it out
🙂
i want to know if there’s a sign language school i can enroll myself into, preferably around La Union or somewhere in Baguio City…

Good luck!
In Baguio City there are I think several associations and organizations involving disabled people. ABS-CBN Baguio even have an interpreter in their Tv Patrol Show. There is also the Bahay na Walang Hagdan in Buhagan Road. The Catholic Church have ties with those offices catering to disabled persons.
I think the best way to learn sign language is for you to try getting a sign language book. The World Almanac for Kids have sign language tutorials.
