Anyone know where i can get sign language classes around san antonio?

Im partially DEAF and I go to this deaf camp. The problem is is that I cant really talk to anyone there because……well their deaf. And i like that camp and I signed up to become a junior counselor there. but I only have SIX months to learn the basics of AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE. I cant find any courses where I can go. Does anyone have any TIPS or WEBSITES or VIDEOS I can go to for help?

  1. Call your local social services agency and ask if they know of any community sign classes. It’s probably too late to get into any at a local college, unless they have one early in the summer semester you could take before you leave for your camp. Also consider finding your local Deaf club and going to events with your local Deaf community.

To learn on your own, check out http://www.aslpro.com – it has a huge variety of vocabulary words, all signed with videos so you can see exactly how they are signed. A good starter course is “Master ASL” – you can find it on Amazon. It comes with a book and video to help you. The best way to learn is by interacting with other signers, but if you can’t do that, between that course and ASL Pro, you’ll be able to at least have basic conversations with your campers. Good luck!
