Baby sign language question?

My baby has been learning sign language at daycare. There’s one sign he keeps making (I think) that I don’t understand. His index finger points to his palm. He keeps doing it so I think it’s sign, but am not sure. I saw that that’s the British sign for L or T I think, but I don’t believe that’s what he’s trying to do. Any signers that might know if it’s likely sign and what it means?
It’s not “more” because he does the other version of more (constantly) with the fingertips together. It look like the letter L on this website: http://www.aspexdesign.co.uk/bsl.htm

He could of course be doing it incorrectly; then again it could be a made-up sign for him. I really believe the former. I’d swear he’s trying to sign something though. It’s very deliberate and repetitive. I will ask them, I just want to know what it is ASAP! 🙂 Thanks…

  1. There are a couple of signs for “more”. One of them is to take the fingers from your right hand and put them in the palm of the other. Perhaps it’s his version?

  2. It could also be a sign for “fork” (but that’s usually done with two fingers).

  3. My guess would be “cookie”, usually its like a “c” shape of one hand tapping the other palm. My brother is deaf as well as his wife and their kids were fluent signers by the time they were 2 or 3 years old. At 6 months old they could sign “milk” when they wanted a bottle!!

  4. i’d ask the daycare what it could be………do it soon so baby does not feel ignored when he’s trying to tell you something

  5. It could be ‘keys’. Or ‘again’, ‘cookie’, or ‘sign’.

If he is doing it correctly, it seems it’s most likely ‘sign’. Perhaps he is asking you what the sign for something is.
