I don’t know any deaf people who are interested in music. I also see that a lot of young people are saying that this is an assignment for ASL class – what kind of ASL class are they taking?!?! None of my deaf teachers even touched on the topic of music. I think that hearing people who sign probably enjoy these videos the most. Any deaf out there with feedback?

they probably just think it looks cool, lol
and if i’m not mistaken, i think i do remember seeing my school’s asl class perform some kind of song, either in high school or middle school
(a) I know a LOT of Deaf people that love music. Lots.
(b) I am assuming their ASL teachers are hearing. Most Deaf teachers would not require that, as it’s actually very difficult to interpret music. Most of the time, there are metaphors and figures of speech that lead to the actual meaning being obscured, and the sentences do not necessarily link to each other as they would in a story. Most GOOD ASL teachers try to avoid the “ASL = English” link, and signing music just reinforces that. If you watch some of those signing videos… the vast majority are REALLY bad. Totally incomprehensible to a Deaf watcher.
But… yeah. Deaf people can (and many do!) like music, but I really doubt a Deaf ASL teacher would ask their students to interpret it… it’s very hard, and reinforces English grammar as opposed to ASL grammar.
