  1. the sign for miles in American Sign Language is two Y hands palm down in front of the chest area repeatedly touching thumbs.

    ASLpro.com has a sign for mile in the main dictionary but it’s not the one i learned. it seems a little more Signed English to me but if you want to check it out and use that one instead i’m sure it’ll work.

    Just pick which ever sign flows better in the song.

  2. I like squid’s answer but I’ll add that my sister (who’s an ASL interpreter) says that “miles” is the easiest, fastest word to fingerspell. With some practice, it goes really fast!

  3. Squid: that’s more the sign for “measure” than mile.

    Usually I just fingerspell mile. That’s the most common thing I’ve seen, too.

    I have seen the sign for DISTANCE (or FAR) with a Y handshape, too, but I don’t know if that’s as widely understood as fingerspelling. But, if you’re signing a song, it’s probably a good idea to avoid fingerspelling.
