  1. well i just wanted to request the climb by miley cirus if u can thank u….for a class project and i want to make sure it correct………..thanks again…..

  2. Wow, you are such an inspiring person 🙂 I have always been amazed by people who speak solely through sign language. What you are doing is creating a whole new world of video blogging, and it’s brilliant! 😀

  3. Hi I think your amazing and I’m learning ASL in my high school. Right now we are signing “Hey Soul Sister” by Train as a class, id love to see how you interpret it and maybe we can watch it as a class! Thank you!

  4. @2A1ron
That was one of my FAVORITE things to learn when I was with “Harmony Hands”. It was a Deaf Choir. I was ONE of 4 people who could hear. (I am hard-of-hearing.)
    My uncle was deaf.

  5. Very good video. Just ONE thing. You mentioned “clicking on this link”. That ISN’T a link. I clicked on it, & it paused your video. What yu showed is called a “U.R.L.”. To see the video, one has to write it down, & type it in the address bar.

  6. I have a question, can you teach me to sign The Lord’s Prayer? I did it once in church when the youth did the service. I got a lot of compliments doing so. I work as a cashier, and some of my regular guests are deaf and I know very little ASL, but I know enough to understand, and communicate with the guests. Thank you in advance, and thank you for what you do here on Youtube.

  7. @katiencaity I’m not sure I follow. If you don’t know the signs, how is signing a conceptually inaccurate English word going to help you learn signs? If you don’t have a way of learning the sign, how can you even try to interpret music, let alone have that help you?

And communication and ASL are not necessarily the same thing. :). Obviously, the more practice the better, so if interpreting music helps someone practice, they will improve. I just think there are better methods for beginners

  8. @saucypedanticwench I think it just depends on the person. A lot of my friends are profoundly deaf, fully integrated into Deaf culture, rarely use hearing aids, and still love music. Walking around Gallaudet, there’s been a shift… a lot more people are now listening to ipods or whatever.

  9. @gw002m Well yes and no again. If you’re not in an ASL class and have no way to learn more vocab looking at a song that is using signs that equal the English word is a very good way to learn synonyms which is a HUGE part of ASL. As said before as long as you don’t go around signing in English word order and pronounce that you know ASL I don’t see a problem. Even in if you’re signing in English word (or some sort of pidgin) order you are able to communicate at least some level.

  10. @gw002m that’s really interesting.. not my experience at all… most of my friends and kids I work with are profoundly deaf.. ie no hearing aids…maybe makes a difference? i like signmark (who is hoh) and other interpreted music when it is done well (difficult!!!)… but i always thought that was because i can hear and sign that made it more enjoyable..

  11. @saucypedanticwench Really? I know many deaf people, and virtually all of them enjoy music. I agree that it shouldn’t be used to teach ASL, but I don’t have a problem with interpreting music and a lot of my Deaf friends really like it. Check out Signmark (youtube him), he’s a Deaf rapper from Finland… really good actually. 🙂

  12. @allyballybabe hey ally, I think you’ve made the purpose behind your youtube account pretty clear and this comment wasn’t directed at what you do.. of course everyone has the right to do whatever they want with their free time, I think I’m noticing a Canada/US difference in who is teaching ASL perhaps.. also I just don’t know any deaf people who are into music – even kids..so it is all a bit weird for me.

  13. @jhood87 lol I know but their is so much I can fit in this darn box that i had to make the words as short as possible so they could fit in this comment box.
FYI: I do know how to spell LOL

  14. @allyballybabeThe value to d/Deaf people depends on the person, just as it does to hearing. But to me its greatest value to the signing community is that most hearing people respond to signed songs in a positive way that increases their respect for signing and signers. From my view increased respect from the non-signing community toward the signing community, whether Deaf, deaf, HOH, or hearing, is a good thing.

  15. @saucypedanticwench i am not encouraging teachers to teach ASL thru song signing. i don’t think that is appropriate. i think that yes, when learning ASL, in a class, it might be beneficial to try and interpret a song, just because you must really think about the deeper, underlying meaning and how you would get that point across, but i am in no way saying it is the way to teach ASL.

i don’t do these vids to teach. i do them for my Deaf friends who like to watch them.

  16. I find it so bizarre that so many ASL teachers in the states seem to be using song translation as a way to teach ASL… I can only guess these are not deaf teachers? It’s one of the hardest things i have to do as an interpreter that I often question the value of as the deaf people usually take that time to chat, nap or text anyway! (“Music? Hearing that”) lol To a novice signer, a lot of song translations seem to make sense but with the music off… they usually don’t or they are just boring.

  17. @allyballybabe I completely understand I jst ment ur”how-to”vids in d past wer2″teach”or@least dats wat I thought but I understand now dat dey werent4ppl who kno nothing on ASL&ur vidz r not2teach(wich I already knew dat)but I do understand SOME of wat u say cuz in a short time I learned so much on d DC&ASL I kno@least 300 wrds w/o a teacher jst movies, books,Internet &watching ur vidz like sum of deaf vidz I C,makes me feel closer2d DC even wen its hard2b involve cuz deir is no1I kno who is Deaf

  18. Ally! I was actually one of the girls in the ASL class you visited last year! I’m not on the new channel because I didn’t move on to ASL 2, but your visit was awesome and we all had fun. It’s really great of you to be supporting their channel! 🙂
