@26peacelovehappiness Yes it really happened.Helen was a naughty little girl who liked to make tricks. She even locked her mother one day a little before ann’s arrival. She was very tricky.
ms.sullivan was a brilliant teacher
@babyely09 nope nothing beats this version, patty and anne were perfect.
Patty Duke is brilliant in this role (and so is Anne Bancroft – no wonder they both won Oscars for this movie). I love the little moment at 2:25 when Annie is stroking Helen Keller’s hair and Helen just flicks it off like a little annoyance. Such a study on being “in the moment” when you’re an actor and having your own point of view that has nothing to do with anyone else’s – especially exaggerated when you’re playing a person who’s deaf and blind.
I played Helen Keller in a theater once…my acting coach told me to constantly relax my eyes and pretend like they were not a part of my body. Also, he told me helen sees with her hands and waves them around a lot so she doesn’t bump into things or when she’s looking for something. But the most important technique…always look the wrong way! lol I wish I were as good as Patty Duke, sh’es a legend!
how can that girl act as if she was blind?
did that really happen? where she locked her in the room?
8:03 lol they’re like “hehe they’re so dumb!”
the newer version is way better i recommend that one better
Why didnt they have sedatives back then
helen really learned alot of words in this scene…she catches on fast!
Captions not avail! brilliant! thanks for caring about the DEAF!
and for someone who wanted to “help” Helen so much he sure wasnt to big on ideas to help her…all he wanted was a quiet house
Yes, Helen is a very clever girl. Just because you cant see or hear doesnt mean that the wheels in your brain stop turning. And for the record, if I had been Helen and couldnt see, hear or talk, I’d probably do alot of kicking and punching and throwing things around too.
This cracks me up, they were such a team.
@PeytonMarieThompson Yes she is!helen was a very bright little girl and all babies learn by imitating their parents,so did helen when ann sullivan tought her manual alphabet; She tought her to communicate like babies learn to talk.
Helen’s a clever girl. The Captain is loud as fuck though.
mimicking or copying is learning if you think about it, like when you’re teacher taught you how to write words, if your teacher wrote the letter C on the board you would write C the same way the teacher did so you would know how to write, and when you study things for a test, you’re copying what is in the note/book to know what is to learn so the brother is and idiot and helen is smarter then him
omg what a devious child, she knew enough how to lock her teacher in her room..don’t know how Anne Sullivan kept her temper through all that
@SecksTheSniper
LOL, I agree with you there…he does yell a lot in the film. 🙂
She was just like any other little girl in that respect but I will read her biography. Thanks
when i first saw this, didnt like the idea,of cute patty duke playing blind and deaf
She must be immitating what her mother did without knowing why. If you look closely, she is holding the mirror the wrong way so she has no idea what she is doing. She’s just wants to be like Mommy.
I totally agree with you. I’m disabled in a few ways and one thing I’m really glad for is the fact that my parents did not pity/baby me. They did not treat me as if I were in different or any more special than my siblings. They treated me like I was normal, and I feel as if this is the best thing they could have done raising me.
