  3. There are many books, or you can go to an adult ed class at your local high school or college.

  4. I would start with the alphabet. Learn the alphabet from a library book or the web. Many things are finger spelled and while you are working on learning the many words that you will find in books you can at least spell something if you are stumped.
I just a hearing impaired student placed in my classroom (I teach Spanish) and although I used to know many signs I have forgotten. I plan to brush up, but in the mean time if the interpreter is not available I can at the very least spell something to him if he was unable to read my lips.

  5. read books or surf the net. i learned sign language from the back cover of a notebook i found. took me 20 mins.
