I do not know sign language but would love to learn. I would like to learn it in order to work at a school for the deaf by my home. I am unsure how long it will take me before i will be able to communicate comfortably, even if it is just basics, with anyone.

that depends on the talent.
its pretty easy……..probably around a week
It depends on what you will be saying, and how quick you can mamorize movements. It should take a few days to get the alphabet, but spelling out everything can be long. It takes a few months of really hard work to become really good, but basic communication should happen in two to three weeks of hard work. Sooner if you are quick!
it depends on how much u practice everyday
i’m thinking several months to become really comfortable..
u can lean the alphabet in a day – but memorizing all the words takes longer
Haha please. A week? You can’t learn sign language in a week. I’m sorry. Sign language is just like any other language. It depends on your talent for learning languages. Especially with ASL, it is much different from English. It is both grammatically and structurally different. So it takes much longer than a week. It shouldn’t take you very long to just learn the basics. Most deaf people appreciate you even trying to communicate, because most people don’t even make that effort. But good luck! If you practice a lot and work hard, you’ll learn quickly.
Each person has his own learning ability. Therefore, it could take longer than normal, or less time than the average, to learn sign language.
It is possible that you can learn the sign language alphabet in less than a day. You can learn often used words, quickly, too. However, becoming fluent in sign language will take some time.
Study online, and take a class at a college.
