@banerika, i have been an Interpreter in training for 5 years already i know that SEE IS PART OF ASL. It is commonly used up north like in New York. What does SEE stand for? Signing Exact English meaning IT IS SIGN it is signing EXACTLY what the person is saying.

Mom and Dad are wrong. For Dad, you make a 5 with your hand, then tap your thumb against your forehead. For Mom, you do the same thing, just on your chin.
@pinapple4eva11. you are not right either. SEE is PART of ASL. You have it slightly confused. ASL is, in essence, short hand meaning that one Signs what is most important. SEE is Signing each sentence as is. I have been an Interpreter for 5 years already i think i know what I am talking about. I have learned from other Interpreters and Deaf people.
@tnafan007 That’s not exactly right, either. Whereas SEE is signing the exact English words in the English word order, ASL is simply signing the MEANING of the words, in the word order specific to ASL. It is important to note that SEE is not actually a language: it is just a way to express English. ASL IS its own language with its own vocabulary and grammar.
Mom and dad were two of the few signs I thought I knew in ASL. I’m glad to see I’m not the only one who’s confused. I’d like to know what other signs she’s doing wrong. Mom and dad are done with your fingers stretched out, like when you’d say 5, right?
@tnafan007, Deaf people vary in their language acquisition, but just because a deaf person uses SEE, does not mean it is a language. It is not. It’s a coding system. ASL is a language. You are absolutely right that people should be taught by Deaf people, but I disagree, not interpreters. ASL teachers, hearing or Deaf, who have fluency in ASL and knowledge/appreciation of Deaf culture, are the best sources of information for learning ASL.
@tnafan007, that’s absolutely not true. ASL is not English, and it is not “English” on the hands. SEE is not a language. These are the kinds of misrepresentations that are being perpetuated by fakers like this woman.
@99mees, okay first off this is an american channel meaning she is NOT from Canada. seccond, thats just plain rude.
1) It is different anywhere you go therefore how can i be soooo wrong? Sign is ever changing everywhere in the world. 2) i got my info from several Deaf people one of which is from up north where SEE is used. So how can I be wrong about info that I actually got from a Deaf person. People should really be taught by Deaf people and very qualified Interpreters.
At least she didn’t use a G and B sign for girl and boy….

Her signs for mom and dad are wrong. I’ve learned from deaf people who are from all parts of the states who use ASL to communicate. I don’t know what this chick is using but it’s not ASL.
you are soooooo wrong. SEE is english signed verbatim. ASL has it’s own syntax and grammar, SEE does not, it’s like a pigeon language. Also, alot of SEE signs are different from ASL. I don’t know where you got your information from, but you’re wrong.

Learn from someone who is 1) Deaf and 2) a qualified teacher of ASL. Then you will have the basis for the language, and will even learn how to learn new signs or slang.
I keep getting confused my daughter’s grandparents are deaf so she ans i are learning but it seems like there are too many types and then there is slang . So I am trying to learn correctly but if no one she meets signs the same then what?
