Brilliant video! All of your lessons are fantastic. It makes the learning process much less difficult. Thank you!
I couldn’t imagine having to finger spell words quickly! I am used to ASL and SEE but dannnnnnnnng I couldn’t imagine fs BSL whew
This is not a good example for understanding how BSL is used in an everyday context. If you see someone signing fluently, you will see it is just as easy and quick as ASL. Human language is all about variation. Two hands is just a different way of doing things, not better or worse : )
As I understand it, ISL is descended from the old French Sign language, the same as ASL – however of course that doesn’t mean that someone who knows ISL will understand ASL perfectly, or vice versa. Just as with spoken languages, two languages being related doesn’t mean someone who speaks one will understand the other.
More than two letters are different. What about words? Would they be pretty much the same?
?? Irish sign alphabet is very close to ASL except for 2 letters. I think?!
It is totally different from BSL though.
I’m from ireland and the sign language alphabet I learned doesn’t match up with bsl or asl!!!
UGLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY
is ASL american sign language and BSL british sign language?
At the end of the day, what the hell is all this bickering, we are all taught our ways, especially those from childhood, so no matter what u think, of course the oppostie is going to look harder, why? because u havent been taught it thats why!
Thats like saying german speaking is harder than english speech, well if ur born english of course its going to be harder if u speak fluent english!!!, come on people noone is right nor wrong here so lets stop this arguing!!!
dont be surprised if u come to england and people look at u weird, believe u me hardly anyone signs asl here.
quick the bickering, i just an asl student but i just roughly learned the bsl alphabet in 30min. in one week i’ll have down pat. don’t u just hate my ass.
@ichnal i agree ! im trying to teach myself BSL since i know ASL and it’s a lot trickier 🙁
Why so many comments saying ASL is better? I think ASL looks confusing, probably because it’s foreign so Americans probably have the same trouble with BSL.
Why would using one hand be better or easier?
A lot of people in the UK are rude or racist about Americans and I wonder if this is because when i come online there seem to be lots of Americans saying their spelling is better and we should all use it, and it seems they say the same thing about our fingerspelling.
its alot harder than asl and i am learning asl and i am hard of hearing
i am deaf, and i sign a lot quicker than how she signs it. i think useing 2 hand to fingerspell and alphabet is easier and avoids confusion with signing it, and for the person whos looking at you signing it, i was born from a hearing family, 80% of deaf children are born from hearing families, they need to know some bsl to able to communicate to their deaf child.
am not against BSL, but find it silly to use 2 hands to fingerspell an alphabet.. and they want you to use AEIOU for oral motor purposes.. If you use both hands you submit to the hearing world and slow down your communication and become more oral exaggarated with your mouth movements and be controlled by the hearing world trying to make you hearing the first place.. i just get turned off by deaf people who let hearing people impose on your fingerspelling alphabet..
No we wont, im from england and i use bsl, no one is changing to asl.
No one in the uk signs asl, all of my deaf friends sign bsl, and i sign bsl, i personally belive bsl is easier than asl
Excellent thank you! 🙂
OK. I know ASL and it is much more simple. This is ridiculous (no offense). I know people in the uk that can only sign ASL. BSL i have never heard of until someone mentioned it to me today…
ASL is so much simpler!
i have to say that i believe ASL is a lot easier….its all one hand and its not that confusing….with BSL u have to make sure you dont put ur finger on the wrong place or you might say the wrong letter….idk i like one hand better…..i have 3 deaf people in my family
British deafies.. am an American Deafie and love to use your English language.. British Deaf will formally change to 1 handed ASL alphabet by Jan 1st 2010.. Happy New Year!!
This is great i had been getting c and d wrong before this
