  1. I took American Sign Language from the time I was 10 until I was 18. Loved it…it’s really growing in popularity, but it’s important to make sure you have a good instructor…you can check out ALSTA-american sign language teachers association to find a great one!

  2. Ive known some kids who did ASL when they were younger. It depends on how old the kids are and how interested they are in learning Sign Language. My friend took 4 years of ASL in school and has read many books on it. She says she really enjoys it, but she goes 4-5 months somtimes without using it, because unless you go out and try to find ways to use it, its not all that great.

  3. No class for my daughter, I taught her some signs myself. I have a baby sign language book, and we started reading it when she was 12 months old. In 2 months she had learned about 5 signs. When I first started teaching her signs, people around me said it would be bad for her to learn, because she wouldn’t talk. But that wasn’t true at all. My daughter is now 2-1/2, talks fine, and knows about 15 different signs.

  4. i havent had any kids in that class but when i was in school i used to take sign language classes. thay come in handy if u know anyone thats deaf and stuff i dated a deaf guy so it was good i took the classes and i had a best friend that was deaf. and me and some other friends at school used to talk to each other with sign language so noone elts would know what we were saying but my mom thought it was well spent money. yes it is worth the time and money

  5. I work as a Lead Toddler Techer at a family resource center and I do infant signs with all of the children. I have seen infants as young as 8 months old signing. Its a great way to build communication with your child reguardless of any hearing issues. It is also great for small motor skills. I would recommend going to your nearest library and check out some baby signs books. You can then copy them and share the signs with family and that provide care for your child.

  6. I did a mommy and me class, and the teacher taught us the basics, and it was not expensive. Then I started to buy videos and books, also PBS & KCET have a program “Signing Time” which is a lot of fun. My 4 yr now knows about 100 word in just 4-6 months. I am teaching my family so that we can get involved charities with DHH children.
