  1. During rush hour, don’t move at a traffic light even if it’s green. A lot of the occupants of the vehicles nearby will teach you at least some sign language.

  2. Your local community college. Well, at least at my college they offer American Sign Language courses.

  3. I would think that you could go to any community college and take a course in sign language. You might also check with people in Chicago who deal with the deaf community to find out where to learn to sign. If you can learn FROM a deaf person, you will probably learn faster, because it’s like immersion for any other language – you’ll learn faster if you don’t “think” the words in English.
