I do not have a degree, but I have over 4 years of experience in learning ASL and associating with Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind people and am fluent.
Just wondering if there’s something I can do besides interpreting seeing as the laws where I live are a little sticky and the state test is being improved upon right now so I can’t try for that right now.
Any ideas would be great! Thanks in advance.

You might see is there are any schools that need help, tutors or preschools that utilize ASL as a language. Sometimes schools offer programs and need extra assistants. Without a certificate that makes you an interpreter, it’s hard to get into things.
Hello. At my college, Louisiana State University, we have what are called captionists along with interpreters for people with disabilities. An interpreter uses ASL for students who are hard of hearing or deaf in a classroom filled with people with no disabilities. They basically follow the student’s schedule and translate what the professor is saying for them.
A captionist is also available for students who are hard of hearing or deaf. They bring a computer with them to the classroom and type everything that the professor says with a sophisticated program that uses abbreviations to fill in the actual words. The student sits next to them and reads off of their computer screen to get the lecture.
I’m not sure what services are offered for the blind, but I’m sure the university offers some.
I know that some of these jobs, such as a captionist, do not require a degree and that it pays good money. I’m also sure that all major universities offer these services. You should check out the disability programs at any nearby colleges. It’s worth a shot and seems like a great job.
