aslpro.com is a good American Sign Language dictionary. It is a nice tool to refrence signs but it is extremely difficult to learn sign language on your own because dictionaries, videos, books and other similar things do not help you with idioms, slang, context or grammar structure (which is in no way related to English) the best ways to learn ASL is to socialize with the Deaf Community and/or take a Interpreter Training Program (ITP). Learning to be fluent in ASL takes a lot of commitment but is well worth it if you are serious about it. If you cannot afford to pay for classes then my best suggestion would be to find a local Deaf club or group and attend some events and start to socialize with the Deaf individuals. Good Luck!
You also might want to check out churches in your area. Sometimes they offer free sign language classes so the hearing people that attend that church can communicate (very simply) with the Deaf people that also attend that church.
