I learned the basics of sign language from a book several years ago. That book is called The Joy Of Signing. It is a very good book for learning ASL. You may want this as a study aid and reference. It may also be out of print for as long as I’ve owned the book.
The version used in the United States is called American Sign Language or ASL..
I simply entered “American Sign Language tutorial” in Google search and found at least one free one. They also offer credit for learning ASL if you pay the fee. Probably a certificate of completion.

Good luck. ASL isn’t all that difficult if it is explained properly and it is even somewhat intuitive when you know the background behind the meaning.

If you really want to learn, there are a few ways:
If there’s a school for the deaf in your area, they usually give ASL classes. (My daughter learned to sign when she was 9 that way – she went for 3 years and made some nice friends, some hearing, some deaf. She’s hearing.)
Check with your school – there may be a school that has a concentration of deaf students. Ask at that school if you can be introduced to some because you’s like to learn ASL. Learning by talking to kids your own age is fun, and you could make a life-long friend or two.
Ask a librarian – they love to help people find things out – they’re living search engines. And your library might have some good tutorial books.
