However, I believe that it is not really possible to learn how to effectively communicate in ASL [American Sign Language] just by using a book or online resource. ASL is a language very much different from English, so just stringing signs together in the order you would speak the words is not really ‘speaking’ in ASL. Best bet is to find a class in your community.

There’s two web sites I use along with (and prefer over)commtechlab: aslpro.com uses video clips better than commtechs and it includes more words and quizes, and
lifeprint.com has plenty of lessons you can work on.
It is better if you take a course in person, not online.
