I have an extremely nice deaf couple who come into my work and I would like to know how to ask them, “How are you doing today?” and ” I am only learning”. I have decided to learn sign language in order to expand my business prospects and this is just where I wanted to start. Thx.

make an “ok” symbol with left hand.
with right hand stick index finger in and out of “ok” sign repeatedly.

I use a wonderful website called ASLpro when looking up signed phrases that I would like to learn.
Just keep in mind you can’t completely learn ASL on the internet or through books. It’s just not possible. If you would like to start getting involved, try finding some community classes. I’m learning ASL in high school for my foreign language, so I’m not sure how hard it is to find these classes.
ASL is not just a direct translation of English. You are not able to just look up one sign then directly translate it due to the fact it has its own grammatical structure, etc. So don’t try and look up “How” “are” “you” “today” and then combine it all together. It just doesn’t work. ^_^
