not sure about a program, but there was a show called “signing time” that my kids love. and also check around and see if someone offers free sign language class.
What’s better is to join a Deaf club or take an ASL course at a Community College.
Like any other language, it would be good if you first have some vocab. There are some good websites that can help you in this. And also dictionaries of ASL that you can find in some book store on the Languages/Dictionaries section, as well as DVDs and visual material.
For a starter you can give a try to these links, they contain the basic vocab and also some idioms that can be handy:

Although, for putting those words together into the right grammar structure, you are going to interact between people who speak the language. That’s why I highly recommend to get immersed in the Deaf community.
