signs of [crazy]: an asl interpretation

granted, gnarls barkley’s “crazy” is a far cry from marilyn… however, his message is equally as universal, and equally profound. what do we perceive as ‘crazy’? can one be more crazy than another? if we can claim the right to call each other crazy, doesn’t that inherently make us [all] crazy? something to think on… enjoy gnarls barkley’s “crazy”, an interpretation in american sign language. [ youtube seems to get the video a little out of sync with the audio, you can find the full high-res version on my website, www.stormfx.net ] additional thanks to the following folks who’s contributions paid for a great deal of the materials used in this video: romi, shelli, bary, todd, liana, rory, justin, jules & kate a note to asl students: my work has never been intended as instrucitonal materials. music interpretation can be complicated and you will see as many interpretations as there are terps in the field. please do not accept any of my sign choices as the [right] choice, though i certainly hope my videos may inspire a deeper analysis of the work that we do. ————————— per request, the lyrics (though please note, they’re all written on the walls hehe) “Crazy” Gnarls Barkley St. Elsewhere Atlantic Records 2006 I remember when, I remember, I remember when I lost my mind There was something so pleasant about that place. Even your emotions had an echo In so much space And when you’re out there Without care, Yeah, I was out of touch But it wasn’t because I didn .

  1. sign language is so hot lol…..this is really cool you should keep making more of these videos.

  2. I love your videos, you are so talented and I love what you are doing, making real music videos using ASL. So many people sign songs, but very few as accurately as you and almost none as artistic. I’m a huge fan. Please make more videos 🙂

  3. I just start to learn ASL recently, am hard of hearing. I can sign some simple words now. I joined a great deaf daing site, ——–deafmatching dot c om——–, and met some good deaf/HOH friends over there. They help me to learn ASL.

  4. I love it, and this is my song. I was very interested in sign language. I learn a couple of them was I was in 4th grade…and I’m thinking to take it in college. I enjoy this video and your Marylin Manson one. Keep it up! ^_^

  5. Wow. you sign really well. I”m deaf girl and I have to say you sign like a pro. lol. that’s awsome. I hope you do more. keep up the good work. 🙂

  6. Fantastic. ASL is so different to BSL which I’m learning now. I know a lot of the Deaf enjoy music and your videos are perfect! They show the words, the storyline, the rhythm…everything…which is so key! Thanks for what you’re doing! Keep it up! And for myself, as a hearing music lover, AND a person with many friends in the deaf community, I’m impressed! 🙂 ( a little something for everyone…I’m sharing this, hope u don’t mind)

  8. the sign where hes brushing at his cheeks. that sign means Experience. i assume thats the sign you were talking about.

  9. Are you talking about the hand shape: Y or the HS: 5? If its the 5, that means experience.

    I think it goes:
UNDERSTAND KNOW(ledge) EXPERIENCE LIFE YOUR ON-TOP/HIGHEST-LEVEL BEST/BETTER KNOW

I think the sign at 1:03 has something to do with highest point (going by the lyrics).

  10. i am.
    in love.
    with this video.
    xD

i’m also in love with Marilyn Manson, and even though this video has nothing to do with him, it’s freaking amazing.
