  1. some community colleges offer it
but i suggest you take private instruction
but no matter what… take it from someone who is deaf
i had a hearing teacher for two years
then the last year was with a deaf teacher and i learned more in the last year then i did with the first two years… although she could have been a crappy teacher..
but if you take it from someone who is deaf you will learn everything important like facial expressions… before i had a deaf teacher i never used facial expressions because i was embarrassed and felt stpuid
but when i had the deaf teacher i started using them a lot and really enjoyed myself and realized it doesnt matter because its skill
i really hope you enjoy it because i seriously LOVE sign language
i constantly use it to talk to deaf people or even just sit on my couch signing whats on tv or listening to music i will sign its loads of fun!

  2. Many community colleges offer courses in American Sign Language. I teach (English composition) at Harper College in Illinois, and one of the courses they offer is in sign language. You can go to http://www.harpercollege.edu and look at the spring course schedule and see a description of our Sign Language course. Others in your area would probably be similar.

You might call the nearest community college and see what their advisors recommend. If they don’t have something, perhaps a nearby college will. Or you might call a school district’s special education department and ask experts there where they’d recommend you get training.

Good luck. There is a need for those who can sign.
