Should i take American Sign Language as my language course in high school?

I’m in 8th grade and i am choosing my courses for 9th grade. I hate languages but when i started to learn ASL from some older students, i actually enjoyed it. But, i heard that some colleges don’t accept ASL as a language. Should i just do spanish or french for 3 years (minimum requirements for my school is 3)?

p.s. I don’t no what colleges i want to go to since i am only 14.

  1. IF YOU THINK THAT ASL WILL HELP YOU WITH WHATEVER PROFFESION YOU MIGHT GO INTO THEN TAKE IT. IF NOT, DONT!
SPANISH OR FRENCH WOULD PROBABLY LOOK BETTER ON COLLEGE APPLICATIONS ALSO.

  2. It depends on your state. Many states do accept it for their foreign language requirement. And, if they are offering it in high school, I would assume that ASL is accepted by your state universities. Also, more states are re-thinking their stance on ASL amid pressure from linguists stating ASL is it’s own language and not just manually coded English. I would talk to the HS councilor and find out if ASL is accepted or will be soon. That will help make your decision.
