I don’t know about books but the Baby Einstein – My First Signs DVD has been a lot of help to me and my husband. And.. our daughter LOVES to watch it.

We are teaching our 3 year old sign, we started when he was young and found out he had special needs. i love it, its the only way we can communicate as he can’t speak yet. I havent had to use books due to the fact that I grew up with a deaf brother.
Here is a list of books from Walmart, I would start with a beginners:

Here is a good website that I use if I don’t know a word:

Just start with simple everyday words..like milk, more, eat, please, thank you…. good luck, we really enjoyed doing this with our son, it helps communication!
We used the Joseph Garcia video. We started kind of late, at about 11 months, but my daughter picked it up in a matter of days.
I can’t find the title of it. But I was gifted a book about baby sign language and it had flashcards for several words. It was bought at barnes & nobles. You can find just about any book there.
I didn’t use it but gave it to someone else who did. It works good if you follow through with it, I’ve heard. I didn’t have the time because I was pregnant again shortly after the first, but if I had the time I would have done it. Go to barnes and nobles or borders. You’ll find several great options for that.
Also be aware that even if you only learn a few words like milk, juice, cup, more, no, then it is great with dealing with toddlers or pre-toddlers that want to communicate. That is why its so great because at that age before they learn to talk, it is a better way of knowing what they need.
We started signing with our daughter when she was around 6 months. We weren’t really doing it consistently. It was more like when we remembered. We started with eat, milk, more and all done. She started signing back at about 10 months, though babies do understand it for awhile before they are able to sign back. Now at 12 months, she’s been picking up more signs, mostly to do with food and eating.
I have the book “Baby Talk” by Monica Beyer. I found it pretty good. It has tips on when to use signs and is easy and understandable read.

I also used the internet though. You can find out any sign you want to use. Just search for ASL and the word you want to sign.
