ASL Itself Is Not Perfect

A discussion vlog: Carl Schroeder explains reasons why ASL is imperfect in respect to its ability to undergo five things that are necessary to recognize and acknowledge the practice of audism. Plato identified these five things: first, the name; second, the definition; third, the image; fourth, the knowledge; and fifth, the reality..

  1. You mean that the ASL standards commitees avoid adding words to the language that are used for potential conflict?

Sorry I don’t know ASL but if that is your meaning, that is very scary. I hope nobody is trying to 1984 deaf people, including other deaf people?

If there is war, all languages must be able to talk about war.

    All languages are limited.

  2. Wish “who” will understand it?

It seems to me., most deaf people on youtube know what audism is.

  3. Right. We must name it to recognize it. If we refuse to name it, then we will never get to recognize it. Wish they would understand that.

  4. It does not matter how perfect it is composed of ASL. I think rather that it is more about fear of new words that may lead to conflict. It can be seen as a war-word in any way. Some words with-ism is a way to highlight.

  5. Will videorecording the reality show the reality to them? LOL

Need more personal stories of audism…”Audism Unveiled” dvd a good start?
