The other morning when I woke up I made up my mind that I was going to learn a foreign language. The decision was to learn Spanish.
This was not a spur of the moment thing but something I decided overnight. Well maybe it was a spur of the moment thing? You’ll have to decide for your self. Let me begin at the beginning.
I went to bed the night before but was all geeked up and having trouble getting to sleep. All of a sudden, I found myself in what appeared to be an airport terminal. I could hear people talking but could not make out what was being said. It appeared that the language being used was Spanish.
You know what it is like, we have heard many Spanish words and phrases over our lifetime. For sure we should be able to pick out certain words or phrases that are used in Spanish. Then I heard a voice that was familiar.
It is not a real distinct voice but if you follow her movies you should recognize it.
I slowly turned around and my jaw dropped. After I picked it up off the floor I focused on the person behind the voice. I started taking steps forward as I just wasn’t going to let this opportunity slip away. She is as beautiful in person as she is on the red carpet.
If she is not the most beautiful woman in the world, she is in the top two or three. There signing autographs for three young women was Halle Berry. I quickened my steps as she was wrapping up signing those autographs. When I pulled up next to her I did not say anything until she looked up at me.
“Hello Halle”, I said. She said something but I did not understand. I shrugged my shoulders and said “You Must Speak English”. She shook her head and said something else, “No habla ingles”. I took that to me she did not speak English. I thought to myself, how can this be.
Well, I don’t speak Spanish and my sign language is non-existent so I did the universal sign of pointing at me then making a big heart with both hands and then pointing at her to let her know that “I Love You!”. She understood and blew me a kiss.
I opened my arms to see if she would give me a hug and she started to take a step towards me when all of a sudden she stopped and began to speak. She said a whole lot of words and I shrugged my shoulders and shook my head no. She said a whole bunch of words again and again I shrugged my shoulders and shook my head no.
With that she slapped me across the face and walked away. I started to chase after her and I tripped over a bag and fell. Just then I woke up and was confused about everything. What had just happened? Was it a dream or a nightmare or did it really happen and I was re-living it?
Well, after laying there for a few minutes I realized it was a dream. I’d say that was a good dream because Halle Berry was in it. But I don’t get the bit of her not speaking English, until I realized that over 12% of our population speaks Spanish and it could very well happen like that some day. If not with her then maybe with someone else who is very beautiful.
This meeting never happened but the dream did. I have no idea if she speaks Spanish, French, Italian, German or just English but I am going to be prepared to speak in Spanish. So that if any chance encounters occur with a person who only speaks Spanish, then I will be prepared.
Sooooo, as a result of that dream, I bought a series of audio books on How to Speak Spanish using Spanish language courses and began learning a second language. I am pretty sure that I will never meet Halle Berry but I am going to be able to speak her language just in case. I will be prepared and if we should ever meet “again”…
