Not all deaf people use american sign language. You can learn sign language on your own somewhat. There are plenty of great videos out there that teach the basics of ASL. After you learn a few basic signs, I would suggest meeting Deaf people at Deaf Events. There will be hearing people (more than likely) at these clubs that could help you out. They may even have more information for you about asl classes. Another option would be to contact your local chapter of RID. (registered interpreter’s of the deaf) They should be able to give you a recommendation of local colleges that offer american sign language. Good luck.
