  2. Not everyone in the Deaf Community is rude. They are like any other minority culture. There are people that only want to socialize with people like them and there are people that want to socialize…period. There’s a wide variety of attitudes and the majority of Deaf people I know and work with fall in the category of, “excited people want to learn my language.”

ASL is a great language. If for no other reason, it will teach you how to be more comfortable with expressing yourself. Hearing people don’t show a lot of emotion on their faces and are not very animated with their bodies. ASL breaks us of the inhibitions of using our bodies and face making our communication so much clearer and more interesting.

BUT…I think you should learn it because it is a great language, beautiful, intricate and emotive. Once you start learning you will get hooked and want to learn more.

    Good luck!

  3. There are aspects of Deaf Culture that are unique just as there are aspects of Hearing Culture that are unique.

Hopefully, you’ll pursue your interest because YOU want to. Personally, I love it when I’m out somewhere and someone approaches me and makes an effort to sign.

You will likely be able to improve your visual-spatial skills as well.
