How can a hearing person who is learning ASL volunteer with deaf people? In the NYC area?

i’m a teenager who lives in westchester
i’m learning asl
i love to do volunteer work and stuff and i’d really like a chance to practice my asl with deaf people rather than from books and stuff.
does anyone know if there’s a way for me to volunteer somewhere in westchester or new york city or nearby where i can actually help out and work with deaf or hard of hearing people? either during the school year or over the summer? thanks!

  1. Well I would look up the N.Y. association for the hearing impaired and ask them for the names of facilities that can use your help.

  2. deafchatcoffee.com has locations of Deaf coffee events. These events are where Deaf people and ASL students get together every month and just hang out and whatever at a local coffee shop.

ohsoez.com also has many Deaf events. They have like Deaf bowling dates, Deaf sports tournaments, Deaf theater performances, etc.

    Good luck!
