I just moved to a community for the developmentally disabled (about 60 people, including residents and workers), and the one lady uses sign language and is completely deaf, but nobody, including all of the workers, knows it. It’s American Sign Language. I think it’s really sad because she signs at people and nobody understands her. She can’t write at all. I think it must be lonely, and I want to learn to sign so I can talk to her. I can’t get classes because nothing’s around here and I can’t drive and they don’t give me much money. Thanks for all your help.

Go to that website. I took ASL in college and I used this website quite a bit to refresh.
cant, i mean you can learn the basics and most common ones but thall still take time, idk where you can learn it but yea itll definatly take time
Most colleges offer cheap courses in ASL, and it’s all over the web as well. Also, many libraries have tapes that you can borrow, with detailed lessons. If you have an Association for the Hearing Impaired anywhere nearby, they generally offer classes and lend out said tapes and books. Good luck!
Just follow this link to learn the alphabet. Practice it and you will eventually know it. You can talk to her this way, it helps alot. Both my neighbors are deaf and it helps to know it to be able to somehow communicate. good luckk!

aslpro.com is an online sign language dictionary. They have videos of the actual signs. I will say this, every state and sometimes city is different. The same way hearing people have different accents and dialects, it is the same way in the Deaf culture so when you find signs online and actually sign those signs to the lady, she may correct some things. Always be willing and opened to receiving corrections. ASL is a beautiful language so I am excited that you are willing to learn my second language. Try to look for ASL meet up groups in your area. Consider finding a church with a Deaf ministry and get involved. Most of the time, Churches with Deaf ministry offer classes. Sometimes they are free, sometimes they cost. But if you are very willing to learn, just be opened to try different things. If you want further information or help, send an email and we can chit chat. The best way to learn is to be around deaf people. There is a barrier if the lady does not know how to write. Perhaps, use pictures and she can sign them to you. Befriend her and she will teach you a whole new world. Take care.
