How can i learn sign language?

I want to learn sign language but i don’t know where to start i checked out a book on sign language which has words and phrases.

Do you have any tips? any sites?
And how long does it take to learn the basics?

and no i can’t take any classes at school cause they don’t offer them but they do have a club but its too late to join
