My brother is ambidextrous and we’re learning American Sign Language. He keeps using his hands interchangeably when we’re signing, so he doesn’t have a “dominant hand.” How is this handled? Is he going to end up confusing someone? Should I force him to choose a dominant side?

Maybe it’s just me, but I thought for some sign language words both hands were used.
I can do a bit of sign language, not a ton.
But from what I know, the easiest thing to do would be for him to just choose a hand. But I don’t think he would be confusing people of he chose both…..
When learning American Sign Language, an ambidextrous person needs to choose a dominant hand and stick with it. When you get into the more difficult descriptive signs, it will be too confusing when you are use to using both hands 🙂
