How long does it take to become fluent in ASL? Fingerspelling resources?

Hello my name is Heather and currently I am learning ASL, I just started this semester. I really enjoy learning sign language and I was wondering how long it usually takes on average for a person to become fluent in ASL? 2 years? 3? Also does anyone have any good internet resources for fingerspelling? I am so bad at that!! Thanks a million Heather Green

  1. I’m glad you like ASL as well. I have been a student for 2 1/2 years now & I would definitely not call myself “fluent”. I can hold my own very well & I do interpreting jobs, but to be considered fluent, I would say it will take 5-6 year at least!

As for resources, I really find ASLpro.com to be very helpful : ) You can pick & adjust your speed for fingerspelling!
