Umm, most of the realitives of deaf people have to know ASL to communicate with them so quite a few.
I am hearing and I learned to speak sign language about 10 years ago. When I was still learning, I met a girl who is still my best friend to this day. I use it when I am talking to her, but other than that I dont use it much. I don’t have any statistics, but I can tell you that the number of deaf people and services for the deaf are higher in any state capital. That’s becuase the capitals have more government funding and government-run programs that are used by the deaf and the disabled.
