I need to learn american sign language, so I can comunicate with my daughter. I can not afford to pay anyone.?

our daughter is 17 years old is going deaf. we are seeking anyone who can teach us how to sign so that we can speak with her. Most of our money goes to taking her to doctors because she has many illnesses. So any help that anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated. If you know of any links or anything that would help. Maybe someone out there could teach us thru yahoo messenger or something. Thank you so much

  1. I know a moderate amount of sign language. I would love to be of service to you, however I believe that it easier to learn when you can actually SEE the signs. That being said. There are videos and books that can help you learn. The series that I learned on and recommend is the Signing Naturally Series, it is very good and the books have pictures to show you how to form the signs. You may be able to purchase them through ebay or amazon.com I am not sure if you can get them through your local book store. Good Luck and feel free to contact me with any questions.

  2. my community college in CA offered sign language classes, and since it is a jr college, it wasn’t extremely expensive. maybe you could look into schools in your area that are affordable.

  3. I’ve seen a lot of language books, and know how much patience it can take to learn a new language, including Sign. I’ve seen many websites on it, as well as books about the different types of Sign (there is Signed English, which I don’t know if I would recommend, and there is American Sign Language, ASL, which is more common).

This is the best site I found, which has lots of vocabulary, manual signing (fingerspelling), as well as good Lessons to teach one Sign slowly.
    The site is:

As one language learner to another, the best advice is to learn it at your own pace, and have patience. Good luck.
