I’d like to learn a language. Anything fast and fun?

I’ve always wanted to learn another language, but I’m not sure which one to devote my time to. I’m just learning for fun, so I’m totally interested in artificial languages (Klingon, Elvish, etc.) or even Sign Language. I want something fun.

I’ve spent a couple years studying Sindarin, one of Tolkien’s Elven languages, because of the beauty of the words, but it’s obviously not something that’s commonly spoken, so I’ve had absolutely no opportunity to share this love with another person.

I thought about Klingon, but there aren’t that many speakers, and it’s said that it’s not something that can really be used for everyday conversation. It’s mainly for brief chats at Star Trek conventions or something.

I’ve looked into Esperanto, which they say is spoken by many people, but I’ve still never met anyone who speaks it.

“Real” languages (Spanish, Russian, etc.) would definetly be a smart choice, but I’m looking for something “fun.” Is there a language that’s actually really fun to learn? Or unique? Or like, sounds beautiful or something? (I’m not trying to insult any languages here, and I’m not saying that no language fits my description, I’m just saying I don’t know which ones do.)

Well, I’m just rambling at this point. lol

What’s a fun language to learn? 🙂

Thanks!

  1. Sign language (not artificial) is fun to learn, you’d be surprised what you can learn and understand, plus it opens your world to so many more possibilities if you can converse with the deaf. They do appreciate ‘hearies’ learning and chatting with them.

  2. Well, try to learn manderin,it is really fun and special.and lots of people speak it.
i am learning spanish now,but the “r” tone is really difficult for me.

  3. You can learn Korean.
    it is unique.
    to say
” I like cat” you write:
    “I cat good”
    난 쥐앵이 좋아.

  4. It depends on your definition of fun. From what you write, you have a desire to share your language with people, so I guess you could start with the languages most spoken around the world. (Chinese, Spanish, etc.).

Esperanto could give some sort of fun: Gives you access of a “select” group of very friendly people, that will be very willing to invite you home and talk to you about their places and cultures. If you enjoy traveling and making close friends this might be your choice.

Learning may not be fun, but once you achieve some competence the fun starts.

  5. You will find that Spanish is a Fun Language and you will also find that Spanish has the most resources. A quick look in any bookstore will find a huge selection of Spanish materials with only a very few by compairson of other languages.

the more resources the better for learning

  6. I will only write some about Esperanto. It is easy but it has its difficulties. Ido—is easier and it is Esperanto simplified. Both languages are rather useless.
Example; The good women go to the beautiful church.
I don’t quite understand what you mean by a fun language. It takes many years of day and night practice to learn a language well.
For fun type the word –Ido– in your search line.
