I am looking to go back to school for an ASL/Interpreting degree. I’ve heard that sometime in the future you will be required to have a 4 year degree of some sort in order to sit the actual interpreting part of the cert. Does anyone know when this switches over?

I don’t know if there is anything related to the state of MN, but for Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), their requirements will change in 2012. Currently, to take their NIC (National Interpreter Certification) Exam, you must possess at minimum an Associate’s Degree. In 2012, it will change to a 4-year degree. The degree doesn’t necessarily have to be in ASL or Interpreting, it can be in anything.
You may want to check the laws in Minnesota as well. I know many states have licensure laws now. I’m not from Minnesota, so I’m not familiar with your requirements.
