I don’t think so. My 8-month old just learned how to wave bye-bye…and that is a form of sign language. I believe there are even some books on that sort of thing. It is not a bad idea to start communicating like that before they can talk… it could minimize missunderstandings and frustrations.

10 months is the perfect age. Start w/: hungry, thirsty, please, thank you, more and all done. It’s so much fun watching them learn sign language and then applying it. Noah knows all of the above and everyone just thinks it’s so neat to see him in action!

my son didn’t learn any sign language (we just never got into the groove of implementing it) until he was 14 months old and my good friend started taking care of him in the daytime while I was at work. He picked it up really really fast.
Within a month he could sign: baby, more, milk, all done, hungry, thirsty
