My girls are 2 and 4 I wanted to teach them ways to communicate with other people who could not hear, Now people look at me as if I am weird for doing so. Is anyone else teaching their children or am I just a weirdo? I just thought it was something easy for them to learn and a new “language” if you will.

I dont think its wierd, in fact i think its great. I dont have deaf family members so I never thought of it but i might now. When i used to work in a day care centre one of the children had Down Syndrome and couldnt communicate properly so they used Auslan (Aussie Sign Language) for him and the other children in the room learnt it aswell and used it
does teaching a dog to read sign (and yes he is learning) count.
i’m learning to read his body language when working with him.
although I still can hear some, much of my hearing loss was over night, deterioration of the nerve’s ability to move the signal perhaps. Had a massive medical exam, MRI, and such and they can’t find a cause,
It would not bother me if the ringing would go away, I’m greatful I’m crazy so I don’t have to worry about being driven crazy
i work with toddlers and we are teaching them simple sign language in my class, so they can communicate more.
I think it’s great. People are so closed minded it scares me to death sometimes.
