If I said I know the manual alphabet, which i do, would that count as knowing another language? Even if I only know a few full words in sign language? I can still spell stuff out with the alphabet. My friends and I all learned so that we could talk during class without getting in trouble. Have you ever done anything like that? Any tips on becoming faster at spelling things out? Thanks
could i say i was fluent in it if I had to spell almost everything out?

no. YOu just know another way to code English.
ASL (american sign language) is a full language with it’s own grammar, body language, codeing, etc.
I don’t know for sure but I think it is a legal language. I find it interesting that you and your friends were so clever to learn it to use in class. Wish I thought of that when I was in school.
Well, put it this way. I learn the Japanese alphabet of of Hiragana. Am I considered to know Japanese? Not a all.
So I wouldn’t say you know sign language, but you do know how to communicate which is good.
As to improvement, well, this language is a little different because it’s based on neither sound not script, but on sight.
So, the best way to learn this is to be taught first hand, because a sign language dictionary wuold be pretty lolworthy.

I’m not completely sure, but I would consider it a language. It was made for people that are mute and/or deaf. And as far as i’m concerned I think you can choose it as a language in high school. Depends where you are for it to be a foreign language.
