The only class I know of is one that is offered for credit at my university. As tuition hours are quite expensive, I was wondering if there might be anywhere in my community I could learn for free or a lower cost than tuition.
I am considering asking the instructor of the ASL class at my university if I might attend the classes without enrolling but am not sure what the response to that may be.

NO! you can’t learn ASL rapid. At least, not if you want to be fluent and sign correctly. If you are serious you’ll need to go to a community college and take up classes.
Sorry ASL is extreme too hard for almost all Hearing people because it is too hard for you. About 95% hearing people has failing those test.
If your English is so good then you can’t learn ASL because you might will be stuck in college for 7 years.
Try Community Education – it is taught in every local Community Education program I have ever encountered. You can’t get very far past the basics, but it will get you started.
