  1. right now I am learning asl and I am using books and also youtube. so far it is easy. I have a friend who is deaf and he is also going to help me learn more. can not wait to learn more. I am sure it will get harder until I learn to speak and use sign language with my friend

  2. It’s just as difficult as learning any new language. Moreso for adults
than children. I was learning a few years ago and attending our
Sign Language congregation frequently, but took an extended
vacation and found that “use it or lose it” is very applicable in my case.

  3. For me it was fairly easy to learn because I learned it as a child. As I got older I used it less often and now I have forgotten most of it. But once you learn the basics like where to place your verbs and nouns it is just a matter of learning the signs. For example you wouldn’t ask a deaf person “Do you want to go to the store?” You would say “Store, you go” or something like that.

Aren’t you hearing impaired? I’ve noticed the way you phrase your questions/answers sometimes.

  4. I would say it’s easy for someone who is determined. At my school there is an ASL class and a lot of people who say it is really hard and they can’t remember everything. For me I sign all the time even to those who don’t know any sign. I started to think in sign and I dream in sign occasionally. Because I spend most of my day learning new signs it is easy to me, but then again it’s only my first year of actually having a curriculum.

  5. Fun.. it is fun to “act out” a language.
Being someone that loves to use my hands anyway.

I would say it was as easy as learning some languages, but it is not the hardest language to learn.

    It IS the funnest though.

  6. For me personally I felt it was pretty easy..at least I never felt too frustrated or stuck in my use and understanding of it. I loved learning, was obsesses, practiced all the time, chatted with Deaf/HOH, DeafBlind, and people who knew sign language often as I could. Of course it was easier because I attended the sign language congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses while I was learning and had a small 2 month class that one elder was teaching, he was an excellent teacher and learned a lot from the classes, about 80 signs a week sometimes, I can’t remember. ASL I feel is my niche, its my passion. I can sign all day and night and never tire of it and always love learning new signs.
I especially enjoy signing with Deaf/HOH people, after all, its their language. Also I like signing with DeafBlind people, tactile is fun.
Anyway, I realize I’m not the typical learner, the rate at which I learned and how much I love it is not quite the norm. I have a few friends like me as well.

Note, everyone is different, so some peoples hands can’t always make the hand shapes well or are slower learners or if they don’t love it as much, so it takes a lot longer for them to learn and/or feel comfortable with signing.
Also for some it may be easy or seem easy but to really be able to use and understand it well does take time, especially all the variances in signs and regions and people that use it.

Well I’ve gone on and on.. But you know Eddie this is a subject close to my heart.
