“Fireflies” in ASL (LIVE!)

Anyone taken an American Sign Language proficiency exam?

I’m taking an ASL proficiency exam soon at a university and was wondering what it is like and what types of things are on it. Do you sit with someone and sign with them or are there multiple choice questions where you seen a particular sign and then try to figure out what it is? Any help would be great. Thanks!

Are there any decent books or tools for learning sign language?

I’ve been wanting to learn sign language for a long time, and I know bits and pieces. I can’t afford to go to school and learn it, so I’m trying to teach myself. Are there any valuble resources out there that I have yet to tap? other than the one crappy book I get from the library occasionally?
Also- side question- I’m not deaf. will deaf people think i’m inconsiderate if I learn sign language?
