How can I learn the sign language and gestures which are commonly used in every-day English?

I’m a student of English but since I’m learning it as an EFL student I’m not very fammiliar with the culture. Americans use a lot of signs in their conversations, I already know some of them but I’d like to know more. What can I do?

What is the best american sign language book to learn from?

I’m planning onstudying to be a teacher for the deaf or a speach path when I’m in college. If I could go ahead and learn the language it would help me a lot. I already have the basic book. I’m looking for a dictionary that will be easy to learn from, and/or a book on grammar. Thanks.
