  1. Sign language is a moving language, it’s not written, so it is rather difficult to learn from a book. It’s not impossible, but you do get a much better idea of how to sign from videos. This may sound silly, but there are loads of children’s videos at the library that teach sign language by using nursery rhymes. They are good for teaching the basics. There is a series called “We Sign” and “Say Sing and Sign”. There are also a few good websites for teaching you individual signs. aslpro.com and asl.ms are both great.
Chances of you going deaf are not that great at your age. Scar tissue from repeated ear infections can harden in time eventually causing hearing loss, but this won’t be until you’re well aged (normally). I had severe ear infections as a child as well, and I still hear fine. (im 27 now). Good luck with Sign language!
