I’ve been teaching myself sign language online lately, but I would like to have a book so I can learn it offline as well. Any recommendations for some sign language books that make it fast and easy to understand?

The ASL Phrase Book is awesome. Just be sure to get the newest edition. Here is a link to it on Amazon.com

I found that The Joy of Signing by Lottie L. Riekehof was a great help for me. I wouldn’t consider it a book to “teach” signing but it’s a great referral book. I used it a lot…and still do. One of the characteristics that I liked about the book was that the words had the visual (and if there are more than one “popular” ways to sign it …they had both), a description of how to sign it and the ORIGIN! It’s amazing how much easier it is to remember a sign when you know the origin of the sign.
